Biography Text

What is biography? 
• It is the story of a real person’s life.
• It is writen by someone else.
• Author must do research by interviewing the subject or those who knew the subject.

Function of biography

1. To know a person’s story about his/her life outside of any accomplishments this person may be known for.
2. To give much information easily and educate the readers.

Generic structure

1. Orientation (Introduction) It is the opening paragraph, gives the readers the background information of the person.
2. Events In events, should be in chronological order.
3. Re-Orientation (Closing) It consists of a conclusion or comment or the writer. Tell about the achievement or the contribution of the person.

Characteristics of biography

1. Biography is not written by subject and always written in the third person.
2. To give much information easily and educate the readers

Tyepe of biography

1. Short Biography (focuses only on highlights of a person’s life)
2. Long Biography (about life and times of someone in a lot more detail)

Grammar and language feature

1. Use the simple past tense.
2. Use of action verbs.
3. Use temporal sequence and temporal conjuction.

Kind of biography text

• Autobiography

An autobiography tells the story of a persons own life. While that person writes his own account, he or she may take guidance from a ghostwritter or collaborator.

• Biography

A biography narrates the life story of a person, as written by another person or writer. It is further divided into five catagories :
A. Popular biography
B. Historical biography
C. Literary biography
D. Fictional biography

• Memoir

This is a more focused writing than an autobiography. In memoir, a writer narrates the details of a particular event or situation that occured in his or her life.

Elements

Your biography must be of a famous person.Research the following fact :

• Birth date
• Date of death
• Birth place
• Earth life
• What is he/she famous for ?
• Where in the world is......?
• Character traits (4-5 words that describe the person)
• Fun facts (5 in total)

Intruction for research :

1. Select the famous person of your choice.

2. Research online information about the person you have chosen.

3. Record the information on the Biography Graphic Organizer.

How to write biography? 

     The purpose of biography is to inform and inspire the reader of an exceptional person’s life.Their achievments, experiences and ambitions. Some points to remember :
1. You need to write your biography in the order in which the events happened.
2. You need to do through research on the person you plan to write about.
3. Make sure you stay with the facts but write these in on inspiring and engaging way for you audience.
Something to think about, if you don’t have enough research material you may need to reconsider the person you want to write about and find someone else.Keep looking for resources.
